The COVID-19 virus concerns are impacting some veterans services.
Davison County Veterans Service officer Craig Bennett says the VA hospital in Sioux Fall is open, and is checking anyone coming in, but not allowing visitors on the CLC wing at this time. “They are taking limited appointments, they are verifying that there is a need for the appointment,” said Bennett. “And if the veteran is in crisis or has an issue, they are encouraging them to take care of what needs to be done.”
He says if a veteran is able and willing to use healthcare in their own community, the VA will help arrange for that and take care of the billing for those services as well.
Bennett says the DAV van is still available to transport veterans to their appointments but they need to call him first at 605-995-8619.
Bennett says the Davison County Veterans Service Office is open, however he’s asking veterans to call before they come in. Bennett says he can take the majority of information regarding claims over the phone. “If I need to get a signature then I will work to schedule an appointment with them,” Bennett said.
Again the Davison County Veterans Service Office phone number is 605-995-8619.
