Dakota Wesleyan University celebrates its 140th anniversary

Dakota Wesleyan University is celebrating its 140th anniversary. President Dan Kittle told a gathering the communities of Ordway and Mitchell were vying for the opportunity to host DWU back in 1885. “At that time the church body decided that they were going to take some time to think about it and come back together as part of the annual conference…and decide which community,” said Kittle. “And before they could even come back together again, the residents of Mitchell began to dig the basement.”

Fast forward to last week when Roger and Vicki Musick announced a $33-million-dollar gift to DWU and the Mitchell School District. “The intent of that gift was to keep us forever together as a community,” Kittle continued. “And it’s already working.”

Kittle also announced a new undergraduate program in computer information systems and a recent donation of 138 acres of land to the university for its use.
