The Dakota Wesleyan University Athletics and Marketing teams have made the decision to formally introduce “Vintage Wesley” to the brand. Starting with the upcoming 2023-24 season, the Vintage Wesley logo will be selectively used by the University for special events, promotions, exclusive merchandise and more. Vintage Wesley will serve as an alternate way to promote the DWU identity and mascot. The logo was tailored and designed to honor the rich history of Dakota Wesleyan University, while also highlighting the excitement for the future.
“This is a very exciting way to expand our brand and pay homage to the past and present,” DWU Athletic Director, Jon Hart stated.
Various versions of this logo have made appearances dating all the way back to decal manufacturers in the 1930s. It’s earliest use at Dakota Wesleyan dates as far back to the 1960’s, while it has also been affiliated with NCAA schools such as Clemson, Auburn, LSU, and Missouri.
Inspired by past versions, DWU partnered with Mongoose Graphics (who also created the primary DWU athletics logo in 2016) to remaster it.
“When we approached Mongoose about this project, our goal was to keep the retro characteristics of the Tiger intact, while also creating a modernized look that clearly displays the current DWU brand,” Hart stated.
Starting July 31, select merchandise and apparel will be sold in limited quantities on campus in the DWU Store located in the McGovern Library. At various times throughout the academic year, be on the lookout for “Vintage Wesley” to be used for special purposes and promotions.
“We have heard overwhelming feedback from students, alumni and fans over the years about formally using this logo, so we are very excited to officially unveil this. I want to thank our friends at Mongoose Graphics for creating and modifying this logo to honor and celebrate multiple eras at DWU,” Hart added.
