Emotions ran high and the debate was heated…but the Lincoln County Commission has rejected a moratorium on data center development for the second time this year. The action came during a joint jurisdictional meeting with the Sioux Falls City Council.
Lincoln County Commissioner Joel Arends proposed the moratorium to allow time to study the impact of the centers. “I don’t want a U.S. Bank-sized stadium data center in my backyard,” said Arends. “My neighbors don’t want it in their backyard, and the people I talked to in the joint jurisdictional area don’t want it in their backyard.”
The moratorium was defeated, but both bodies agreed to a late October meeting to focus on data center issues.
