The Davison County Auditor’s Office is notifying voters that absentee ballots for the upcoming June 2nd Primary Election will NOT be available on the first day of the absentee voting period.
Due to multiple statewide petition challenges, and the 2026 timeline of petition deadlines, our office, and Counties across South Dakota are faced with a situation where we are unable to receive our ballots in a timely manner to begin absentee voting on 4/17/2026.
The Auditors office is working diligently to prepare for the Absentee voting period, as soon as ballots are on hand we will begin mailing out absentee ballots immediately to the voters who have completed an absentee ballot request. In addition, as soon as ballots are on hand, we will start in person voting in the Auditor’s office. We will continue to update the voters of Davison County with the status of our ballots through official communication channels.
Voters are encouraged to; Submit absentee ballot applications early and verify your voter registration information with the Auditor’s office. The deadline to request an absentee ballot remains 5:00pm the day before the election pursuant to SDCL 12-19-2. The deadline to register to vote is May 18, 2026.
For more information, please contact Kathy Wingert at the Davison County Auditor’s office at 605-995-8608 or visit davisoncounty.org where we will continue to update the status of our ballots.
