Davison County Commissioners have unanimously approved Sheriff Steve Harr’s request for adding a new deputy.
There are currently eight deputies on staff with the last patrol deputy added in 2021. Harr says calls for service have jumped dramatically since then. “We had 2,112 calls that year. Last year we had 4,974,” said Harr. “So in a five year period we had a 135% increase in our calls for service.”
Plus case numbers are following the trend. “We had 442 in 2021, and 744 in 2025, so that’s 68%,” Harr pointed out.
Which grabbed Commissioner John Claggett’s attention. “That case’s number was really something,” he said. “Yeah. Both of them really high.” Claggett continued. “When you add the two together, you’re talking a big number.”
Harr told commissioners adding another deputy will ease the increasing workload on the current deputies hopefully avoiding burnout.
