Davison County Commissioners approve two highway safety grant application requests

Davison County Commissioners recently green-lighted a request by the Davison County Sheriff’s Office to pursue two highway safety grants.

Chief Deputy Tim Reitzel says the money helps offset overtime costs and pays for equipment and training. “Deputies work these grants,” Reitzel said. “They’re required to work high-visibility areas.” He said keeping roads safe is a top priority. “Our goal is to reduce car crashes and fatal car crashes with these grants.”

The first grant is for speed and seat-belt enforcement at $8,750 worth of funds. The second is for impaired driving enforcement for a total of nearly $49,000.

Commissioners approved both grant requests unanimously.
