Two people died Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 near mile marker 331 in Mitchell, SD.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported shortly after 5 pm, a Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 between the two Mitchell, SD exits when the vehicle entered the south ditch and struck a guard cable near an upcoming bridge over Rowley Street. The vehicle fell onto Rowley Street where it struck a retaining wall, and came to rest on its side.
The 34 year old male driver and 38 year old female front seat passenger, both from Pierre, sustained fatal injuries. Two young passengers, a 1 year old female and a 3 year old male sustained minor injuries. All occupants were wearing a seat belt.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
