Dean Sorenson joins the South Dakota Hall of Fame

A Mitchell native and broadcaster took his place in the South Dakota Hall-of-Fame over the weekend.

Former broadcaster and South Dakota Hall-of-Fame Board member Marci Burdick introduced Dean Sorenson.

“Dean’s career began in radio right out of high school, from 4 p.m. to midnight shift at the legendary KORN Mitchell,” said Burdick. “He grew through sales and management and over a 60-year career, devoted himself to community betterment through his businesses and with service on boards and organizations too many to mention.”

S.D. Hall of Fame executive director Laurie Becvar (l.) and Board member Marci Burdick (r.) welcome Dean Sorenson to the South Dakota Hall of Fame.

Sorenson is also enshrined in the South Dakota Broadcasting Hall of Fame, The Minnesota Broadcasters Hall-of-Fame and the Radio Broadcast Hall-of Fame nationally.

He’s also the second former KORN broadcaster in the South Dakota Hall-of-Fame, the first being Gary Owens in 1995.
