Each year the South Dakota Council of Teachers of Mathematics gives out a Friend of Mathematics to recognize an individual or organization for their commitment to the discipline in the state. This year’s award winner is Dr. Ashley Digmann of Dakota Wesleyan University. She graduated from Dakota Wesleyan with her Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Math Education. She’s taught middle school, high school, and university mathematics courses. Digmann earned a Master’s degree in Math Education from Chadron State and her Ed.D in Leadership from Creighton University. At DWU, she’s served in various roles over the past 15 years. When SDCTM has the Summer Symposium at DWU in July, Digmann willingly offers our attendees a graduate credit and runs the course without any help from SDCTM. This year she had more work as 17 of the 41 participants took the course for credit. We appreciate all that she does for us for the Summer Symposium and for her support of SDCTM throughout her work at DWU.
