District 20 legislators preview the 2025 South Dakota legislative session

A standing room only crowd packed the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce meeting room to get acquainted with the new District 20 legislative team of Senator-elect Paul Miskimins plus Representatives elect Kayley Nolz and Jeff Bathke.

On the subject of Medicaid expansion Miskimins says the anticipated reduction in federal support has arrived. “This year it will create about a $45 to 47-million dollar hit on the state’s budget,” said Miskimins.

Bathke said when the public approved Medicaid expansion it had to assume the responsibility for paying for it.

The 2025 South Dakota Legislative session opens Tuesday, January 14th in Pierre.
