Douglas County fatal crash

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported two people died in a single-vehicle crash Sunday evening six miles southwest of Corsica.

Shortly before 6pm a Ford Fusion was traveling eastbound on SD Highway 44 near mile marker 325 when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the south ditch. The vehicle hit a field approach, vaulted over a fence, then rolled, coming to rest in the field.

The 52 year old male driver from Mitchell and a 72 year old female passenger from Sioux Falls died at the scene. Two other passengers, a 37 year old female and a 36 year old male, both from Sioux Falls were life-flighted to a Sioux Falls hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The names of the people involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is preliminary.
