Emery pool vandalism investigation is underway

Recent vandalism at the pool in Emery…could have shut it down for the summer. On Sunday morning, the pool crew discovered a major feature of the pool was heavily damaged.

Kyle Beach is the Mayor of Emery. “It’s a water feature, a bucket that fills and then pours into the pool where the little kids stand under it and then the bucket dumps on their heads,” Beach said. “And that was completely sheared off, the horizontal section was completely sheared off and sitting on the pool deck.”

It could have rendered the pool useless for the rest of the season. However the maintenance man had a trick up his sleeve. “Travis was able to not repair the water feature part, but repair it enough to where it can fill the pool to where we don’t have to worry about the staff hours and coming in to top the pool off,” said Beach. “So the pool is open as normal, which is nice.”

Beach says a suspect turned themselves in to the Hanson County Sheriff’s Office.  Sheriff Brandon Wingert says an investigation is continuing.

Beach says the city is looking at the possibility of installing security cameras at the pool in the near future.
