Fatal crash near Sioux Falls

A 59 year old man from Sioux Falls died in a collision with a semi Tuesday evening in Sioux Falls.

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported around 11:30 pm, the driver of a Lexus IS250 was traveling northbound on Interstate 29 in a construction zone near mile marker 79. At the same time, the 57 year old male driver of a Freightliner Cascadia with double trailers was traveling the same direction in the next lane. The trailer wheels struck a concrete barrier, sending the second trailer airborne which then tipped over, landing on the Lexus. Both vehicles came to rest in the east ditch.

The driver of the Lexus was pronounced deceased at the scene. The semi driver was not injured.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
