One person died Saturday afternoon in a two vehicle crash in Davison County.
The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates a 2010 Ford Fusion was stopped or nearly stopped in the southbound lane of SD Highway 37 near mile marker 71, one mile south of Mitchell, around 2:10 pm. A 2014 Chevrolet Silverado was also southbound at the same location. The two vehicles collided in the southbound lane. The Ford Fusion came to rest in the west ditch. The Chevrolet Silverado came to rest in the east ditch.
The 63 year old male driver of the Ford Fusion was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 72 year old male passenger received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. Seat belt use is under investigation for the driver. The passenger was wearing a seat belt. The 57 year old male driver of the Chevrolet Silverado did not sustain any injuries and was not wearing a seat belt.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
