Last week the state of South Dakota learned it qualified for aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency following a Presidential Disaster Declaration after flooding in June.
Davison County Emergency Management Director Jeff Bathke says Davison was one of four counties that qualified for individual assistance. “Anyone who had any damage to their home regardless of whether they registered with us, after the flood or not, they’re still eligible,” said Bathke. “We are in negotiations right now of getting FEMA on ground and where they’ll be. Once we find out where they’ll be. Once we find out when they’ll be and where they’ll be, we’ll put that out to the public.”
Once the location is established anyone who had damage to their home may come in and meet with FEMA representatives. “They will probably come on-site to inspect their home and see where the damage was,” Bathke said. “And that qualifies them for FEMA reimbursement.”
Applicants have 60 days from the date of the declaration to apply. The disaster was declared on August 15th.
