FEMA’s Mobile Disaster Recovery Center in Lake Andes will continue operating through Friday, July 19th. The center was scheduled to close Thursday evening at 6 pm but FEMA Media Relations Specialist Pamela Saulsby says there’s been a strong response since the center opened Monday. “I don’t think they were expecting the kind of turnout from residents in that (Charles Mix) county,” said Saulsby. It just shows you that the need is great and that there are people who generally prefer face to face support and assistance…it’s easier for them than talking to somebody over the phone or navigating through a website.”
She says residents impacted or displaced by winter storms and flooding between mid-March and late April should stop by and register with FEMA to see if there’s help available. The Lake Andes Mobile Disaster Recovery Center is located in the 4-H building and is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Survivors may also register by phone by calling 1-800-621-3362.
Saulsby says two more FEMA Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers will open in Hutchinson and Turner counties in the near future.
