Mitchell firefighters quickly extinguished a fire on the second floor of a house in the 700 block of West Fifth Avenue shortly after 5pm Thursday.
Fire Marshal Shannon Sandoval says two firefighters knocked down the fire quickly. “It seems like it’s a room and contents fire”, said Sandoval. “There was an upstairs bedroom that would have been a converted attic…that sustained pretty considerable damage.”
He says the occupants got out and no one was hurt. Sandoval says the occupants were displaced and unable to return to the house overnight.
He says investigators are interviewing those at the scene as they try to determine what caused the fire.
Approximately 20 firefighters, two trucks, the ladder truck and ambulance responded.
