Five people died in a single vehicle crash late Wednesday evening, three miles east of Scenic, SD.
The South Dakota of Public Safety reported about 11:59 pm Wednesday, the driver of a Honda Pilot was traveling eastbound on SD Highway 44 near mile marker 90 and failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle entered the north ditch and struck a concrete barrier. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames.
The driver and four passengers died at the scene.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary. Additional details will be released when they become available.
The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
