Five South Dakotans test positive for Covid 19 with one death

The Covid 19 coronavirus has arrived in South Dakota. Governor Kristi Noem says the state health department confirmed that a 60-69 year old Pennington County male with underlying medical conditions has died. A 30-39 year old woman from Davison County, a 50-59 year old male from Charles Mix County, a 40-49 year old male from Beadle County and a 40-49 year old male from Minnehaha County tested positive for Covid 19. They are believed to be at home. All of the patients had traveled outside of South Dakota in the last week.

The Governor says the health department is on it. “The Department of Health is going to be working to identify any additional people that did come in close contact with these individuals so that we can be proactive…to slowdown and stop the spread of the disease,” said Noem.

She says it’s time for everyone to step up their game by staying informed. “I encourage all of you to visit our website which is covid.sd.gov,” said the Governor. “We are keeping that up to date with all the information that you will need.” Questions may also be directed by phone to 1-800-997-2880.

Noem says commonsense is the best approach in dealing with Covid 19. “Wash your hands…if you’re not feeling well to stay home, call your health care providers.”
