Now that demolition of the former Mitchell High School has started, Superintendent Joe Childs is reminding community members to avoid venturing onto the site in search of souvenirs.
“There’s a Puetz trailer that’s parked on the southeast side of the old school,” said Childs. “And they will have a spot there designated for people who are interested in having a brick or two from the old building.”
He says as the bricks come down, workers will select some which are in better shape and place them in a pile located away from the demolition site where it’s safe. “People can take what they want and we’re not charging for any of that,” Childs said. “So if somebody wants a brick for a keepsake, there will be an opportunity to do that.”
Childs is unsure how soon the bricks will become available but once they are, community members are welcome to take some.
