Wisconsin’s
new hemp legislation was signed into law Tuesday. Governor Tony Evers made the Growing
Opportunities Act into Act 68, updating the state’s two-year-old hemp pilot
program.
State Senator Patrick Testin was an author of the bill, and says the new law makes it easier for growers and processors to communicate with each other. He says, “In year one and two, we didn’t have that capability. In hindsight, we kind of hampered the industry a little bit.”
Testin tells Brownfield he will reach out to other hemp-growing states to lobby federal officials about what he calls “heavy-handed rules” from USDA, including the rule against repurposing a crop that’s hot with THC.
