Johnson defends proposed changes to Medicaid despite push back

Congressman Dusty Johnson is discounting critics of proposed changes in Medicaid who claim they go too far. “This is just focused on making sure that able-bodied young people who can work do work or volunteer or be in a training program or be in school,” said Johnson. “As long as you’re trying to do something to help yourself, you’re going to continue to have the federal government walk alongside you to pay for that healthcare.”

He says there’s a lot of fear mongering being spread. “It’s baloney, none of it’s true,” said the Congressman. “The reality is, if you’re working hard to make ends meet, you are not going to have anything negative happen to you with these programs.”

The House passed the President’s tax cut proposals by a one-vote margin which sends the legislation to the Senate. Johnson says it’s urgent to make the tax cuts passed during the first Trump administration permanent. He says failure to do so would result in a 22-percent tax increase for South Dakota families.
