June’s Mid-America BCI Index Moves Higher Despite Job Losses & High Inflation

Mixed signals on the regional economy, as we see improvements in Manufacturing in spite of job losses and high inflation.

Creighton University’s monthly Mid-American Business Conditions Index was in positive territory for the fifth straight month.

Economist Dr. Ernie Goss says the region has lost 15-thousand jobs over the past 12 months. “We recorded job losses in manufacturing for the month of June,” Goss pointed out. “Now this is the 10th time in the past 12 months that we’ve recorded job losses for the region.”

The manufacturing sector in South Dakota lost about 800 jobs over the last year…that’s 1.8% of its manufacturing base.
