- Community members, family and friends gathered Friday night in Hitchcock Park for the annual Heart and Sole Cancer Walk. The event raises money that’s distributed to local cancer patients currently receiving treatment to help offset expenses not covered by insurance.
- The Oglala Sioux Tribe is working to reduce gun violence on the Pine Ridge Reservation. It’s getting help from several federal law enforcement agencies. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says the ATF is testing hundreds of guns seized by Tribal Police over the years. He says it could be compared to testing the DNA of those guns.
- Congress is getting closer to passing legislation to boost housing supply and affordability. The House and Senate both passed versions of the 21st Century Road to Housing Act. Senator John Thune said its provisions will make a difference in South Dakota.
- Review of the proposed 2026-2027 K-12 budget is on Monday’s Mitchell School Board meeting agenda. In other business, the group will consider and act on the consent agenda, consider approval of the Mitchell High School handbook and approval to advertise Middle School positions. The meeting starts at 5:30 pm in Room 110 of the MC-TEA building.
- The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department is encouraging boating safety this summer. Conservation Officer Taylor Kirchner says boaters are required to have three things aboard: like jackets for all, a fire extinguisher and a throwable floatation device in case someone falls over board.
