Kudos to Mitchell Area Veterans

Veterans, friends and community members gathered Tuesday for Davison County’s annual Veterans Day recognition event and luncheon.

Mitchell American Legion Post 18 named Rod Satrang as its Veteran of the Year. Tom Oberembt is the Mitchell VFW Post 2750 Veteran of the Year. Larry Loveland is Mitchell 40 and 8 Veteran of the year and Dean Strand Mitchell DAV Chapter 27 veteran of the year.

Mitchell VFW Post 2750 Auxiliary volunteer of the year is Wanda Kobes.

Staff Sargeant Josh Rasmussen was honored as full-time soldier of the year and Sargeant Riley Ferry of the South Dakota Army National Guard’s Support Maintenance Company was named soldier of the year.

Quilts of Honor were presented to Art Escalante, Adolph Zoss and Jim Schorzman for their service.

Numerous volunteers were recognized for their service a color guard and honor guard members.

Mitchell High School History teacher Steve Morgan delivered the key-note address regarding Civil War veterans who located in the area after the war.
