Local observance of National Disability Employment Awareness Month planned for October 27th

This is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. A local observance is set for Tuesday, October 27th at Dakota Wesleyan University.

Bonnie Gusso with Black Hills Special Services says people with disabilities can make the best employees. “We call that the most untapped resource that there is,” Gusso said. “They are loyal, dependable to a fault.”

In recognition of the month, Gusso says the local organization is welcoming a special guest: Sunshine Suzy. “She is a fifth-generation farmer, and she has started her own business,” Gusso shared. “And she is a young lady with Down syndrome.  And she goes around and does motivational speaking and advocating.”

Recognition of the Employer of the Year of People with Disabilities and the Employee of the Year with a Disability follows Suzy’s presentation.

The program is set to start at 8:30 am at the DWU Pratt Ballroom. The event is open to the community.
