Local Pastor to Bike 500 Miles to Raise Funds for Mitchell Regional Habitat for Humanity

Daryl Schubert, pastor at New Home Lutheran and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, will be participating in the annual Habitat 500 bike ride from July 11-17, 2021.  He will be riding 500 miles in one week to raise funds for Mitchell Regional Habitat for Humanity.

Created by Habitat for Humanity Minnesota, the Habitat 500 is an annual fundraising ride to support local Habitat affiliates.  Pastor Schubert will be riding several routes around the Mitchell area to accomplish this feat.  Members of the public are invited to ride with him.  All proceeds from the ride will to go to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing in the Mitchell area through Mitchell Regional Habitat for Humanity.

There will be a “Lap the Lake” ride to finish out Pastor Schubert’s 500 miles on July 17th that the public is invited to join.  The ride on July 17th will end at a donor and volunteer appreciation picnic at Camp Arroya at 6 p.m. to celebrate Schubert’s ride as well as honor the donors and volunteers who make Mitchell Habitat’s work possible.

Since 2001, Mitchell Habitat has built or repaired more than 25 homes in Davison and Hanson counties in cooperation with volunteers, businesses, and families who partner with them.  New homeowner families complete 200-400 hours of “sweat equity” working on their homes and the homes of others.  When the home is completed, they purchase their homes from Habitat using an affordable mortgage.  Potential Habitat homeowners must meet income and credit requirements in order to qualify for the Habitat for Humanity program.  Habitat for Humanity is an equal housing opportunity lender.
