Major flooding forecast in southeastern South Dakota forces closure of I-29 between exits two and nine

Record amounts of water from recent heavy rains are headed for extreme southeastern South Dakota. Governor Kristi Noem says upstream gauges on the big Sioux River have already broken records…

 

Noem says the Big Sioux River at Sioux City, Iowa is predicted to set a new record at 42 feet on Monday at 1pm…

 

She’s also asked for a voluntary evacuation of Dakota Dunes…

 

I-29 at Exit Four is closed as crews work to shore up the levee system in the area.  The Big Sioux and Missouri Rivers are forecast to crest above 2019 levels at Sioux City.
