Mayor Bob Everson has released the following statement:
“The City of Mitchell respects people’s First Amendment rights. Our officers are committed to maintaining positive relationships with those in Mitchell and are always looking for ways to improve those relationships. I encourage anyone with concerns or suggestions to make their voices heard peacefully. While we hope not to see any protests become violent or disruptive, the City will be prepared to issue a curfew by executive order and respond appropriately to bad actors as may be necessary.
For those that choose to exercise their right to peacefully protest, I encourage you to not only take responsibility for your actions but also to actively discourage other protesters from inciting violence. I hope we can all do our part to make sure nothing negative detracts from the positive change everyone would like to see.”
