Memorial Day observed in Mitchell

It was a perfect day for the Mitchell community to gather together in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the cause of freedom both at home and abroad.

The Memorial Day tributes included salutes to the deceased at the American Legion Cemetery, the Navy Mother’s Lagoon, the Grand Army of the Republic and finally at the Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery.

Retired Marine Corps and Army Reserve Command Sergeant Major Dwight Stadler from Mitchell delivered the Memorial Address. “Remembering, honoring, and paying tribute to fallen and departed servicemen and women, I am so grateful for their supreme sacrifice in war and for those who served and survived but now rest in peace with God,” said Stadler. “We are here to honor them today, our departed comrades. They shall never be forgotten.”

The ceremonies concluded with a rifle salute to the deceased followed by taps.
