Mitchell American Legion baseball players appear in court

RAPID CITY, S.D. – In a recent status hearing in Rapid City, six former American Legion baseball players from Mitchell faced charges of second-degree rape related to an alleged attack during a baseball tournament. Five of the six defendants were present in court, while one was excused.

Attorneys representing three of the defendants—Karter Sibson, Landon Waddell, and Carter Miller—have filed requests to transfer their cases back to juvenile court. A hearing on this matter is scheduled for early July. The remaining three defendants—Hudson Haley, Payton Mandel, and Lincoln Bates—will have another status hearing on July 1.

The case, involving incidents alleged to have occurred in Pennington County, is under consideration in that jurisdiction. Further developments will unfold as the legal proceedings progress.
