Mitchell Area Disaster Recovery Centers set to close

All of the remaining Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in South Dakota are scheduled to permanently close at the end of this week. The deadline for registration is January 31, 2020.

The centers in Alexandria, Mitchell and Madison will close Friday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m.

The center in Plankinton will close Saturday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m.

Since the DRCs have opened, specialists have met with more than 1,100 residents to assist with registrations and resolve issues.

After the centers close, homeowners and renters with disaster-related damage in designated counties can still register with FEMA, or get other help:

  • Online at DisasterAssistance.gov.
  • By calling the disaster assistance helpline at 800-621-3362 or TTY: 800-462-7585. Lines are open daily from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Help is available in most languages.
