Mitchell area mentorship program trying something new

Big Friend Little Friend of Mitchell is launching a new campaign to recruit more mentors for Mitchell area youth.

BFLF executive director Linda McEntee says the organization is taking a different approach called “flip the list”. “Our goal is to try to get 12 mentors approved and waiting so that when a child comes in and enrolls in Big Friend Little Friend, they don’t have to wait so long,” McEntee explained.

She says once a child is accepted into the Big Friend Little Friend program they’re placed on a waiting list. “Some wait months, and we’ve had some that have had to wait a year, and I’m not kidding,” McEntee said.

Big Friend Little Friend is a youth-mentoring agency. “We find volunteer mentors who are caring, committed adults who are willing to give at least one hour a week to a child and help them navigate life’s challenges and applaud their successes and help them during times that they need help,” said McEntee,
