Candidates for Mitchell city council and Mayor offered their thoughts on a variety of topics during Thursday’s public forum at MTI streamed live on the KORN News Radio website.
The proposed Main Street Business Improvement District and Lake Mitchell Improvement project surfaced as the hot topics, followed by infrastructure, the Corn Palace and leadership.
Council candidates Tim Goldammer, Dan Sabers and Clay Loneman running in Ward One and Deb Emme and incumbent Ward Two Councilor Kevin McArdle were first up.
Three of the five supported the Main Street BID plan, with Loneman somewhat undecided and Emme opposed.
Mayoral candidates Bob Everson, Steven Larson, Mel Olson and Tara Volesky rounded out the evening. Regarding Lake Mitchell, all agreed something needs to be done to improve water quality, but Volesky felt a second or even third opinion should be sought before proceeding.
The City election is June 5th.
