Mitchell City Council votes to advance new development near Lake Mitchell

The Mitchell City Council has green-lighted a major economic development project just north of Lake Mitchell. The group unanimously approved rezoning of the land from Urban Development District to Lakeshore Planned Unit Development District.

City Attorney Justin Johnson says the project is named Peaceful Pines. “A senior living facility including 21 assisted living units, 18 independent living units, 16 memory care units,” said Johnson. “The development is expected to generate approximately 1.5 million in payroll throughout the creation of 30 plus jobs.”

The council then approved establishing a tax-increment financing district associated with the project. Johnson says the state has classified it as an economic development TIF.

In other business, the council re-elected Councilor Kevin McCardle city council president and Councilor Tim Goldhammer vice-president. Mayor Jordan Hanson also reappointed all city department heads for the next three years.
