Mitchell couple recognized for their philanthropic efforts to bolster education

The Association of Fund Raising Professionals-South Dakota Chapter, recently presented its Philanthropist of the Year Award to Roger and Vicki Musick of Mitchell. The award took Roger by surprise, which he gratefully acknowledged. “Very honored,” Musick said. “I didn’t realize it was coming and I appreciate all the people here.”

Helping young children drew him to philanthropy. “Kids that are in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, making sure they get off to a good start,” Musick noted.

Earlier this year Musick and his wife Vicki donated $33-million dollars to the Mitchell School District and Dakota Wesleyan University to enhance future educational opportunities in the Mitchell Community.

As for what’s next, “We have a lot of work to do in implementing the gifts with Dakota Wesleyan and the school system,” said Musick. “So, I’m on the committee that will help decide which programs we should deploy at what time.”

The Musick’s received the award during a ceremony at Dakota Wesleyan University on Wednesday.
