Forty years ago Frank Krohmer started his plumbing business with a pickup truck with his wife Kris by his side. “Worked in the field with me,” said Krohmer. “Plumbing houses and remodels and doing things like that.”
Today Krohmer Plumbing has grown to 170 employees with locations in Mitchell, Sioux Falls and Rapid City.
Krohmer says plumbing itself has evolved as well. “We used to get blue-prints and paper,” he continued. “Now all my guys carry iPads.”
And the most rewarding part of the last 40 years: “Fun to be able to help people and solve issues,” Krohmer said. “The new stuff is great. But at the same token, work with someone who has an issue and get something with them, that’s fun.”
On Thursday Krohmer Plumbing cut the ribbon at its new shop and showroom in the former Shopko building on North Main.
