Mitchell FDC caps off competition season with a clean sweep

Friend De Coup claimed Grand Champion, Best Vocals, Best Choreography, and Best Band awards at the 14th annual Wheaton Warrenville South High School Choral Classic on March 12.

Fifteen high school choirs from Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, and South Dakota competed in the treble/bass and mixed divisions for the daytime, caption, and championship awards.   The Choral Classic Master of Ceremonies informed the audience on Saturday night that prior to the Choral Classic, the 15 choirs at the competition held 16 grand champion titles, making it an extremely competitive event.

Victorious FDC celebrates a big win in Illinois

Friend de Coup is only the third group not from Illinois to win the Choral Classic in it’s 14 years of existence. This is the sixth time FDC has competed at Wheaton Warrenville South and the first time they have ever won the prestigious competition. “We hope you will come out and see what all the hype is about during the Mitchell Show Choir Classic on March 19 and the FDC Cabaret on April 7th, 8th, and 9th,” Mr. Nick McGraw, FDC Director said.

Other finalists in the high school competition in order of placement were first runner up Flight from Wheaton North High School, Wheaton, IL; second runner up The Network from Homewood High School, Homewood, AL; third runner up Titan Fever from Glenwood High School, Chatham, IL;  fourth runner up On Stage from John Hersey High School, Arlington Heights, IL; and fifth runner up Sound Check from Waubonsie Valley High School, Waubonsie, IL.
