On 12/02/21 at approximately 5:17 pm the Mitchell Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting an assault in the 200 block of West 4th street, and that a male victim had been stabbed. Officers from the Mitchell Police Department, Mitchell EMS and the Davison County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and located a second victim that had also been stabbed. It was determined that a 19 year old male, DARIO ALONSO CORDERO, and a juvenile male had gone to the residence on West 4th to confront and assault a juvenile male that was involved in another incident earlier that day.
Through the investigation it was found an assault had occurred and during the assault the juvenile suspect stabbed two male individuals, ages 20 and 28, that lived at the residence. The two victims that had been stabbed were taken to the Avera Queen of Peace Emergency Department by ambulances for treatment. One of the victims was admitted to the hospital for observation with non-life threatening injuries. The second victim was treated and released from the hospital a short while later.
19 year old DARIO ALONSO CORDERO was arrested for two counts of Aiding and Abetting Aggravated Assault which is a violation of South Dakota Codified Law (SDCL) 22-18-1.1 a class three felony punishable by up to fifteen years in prison and a thirty thousand dollar fine. The juvenile suspect involved was detained and will be handled through the juvenile justice system.
