The Mitchell Police Department is investigating the death of a male reported shortly before 4:00 pm Sunday. The body was discovered near the railroad tracks located on the 800 block of W. Hanson Avenue. Officers responded to the scene and found what appeared to be the body of a deceased adult man. It appeared the body had been at that location for the last several days.
An autopsy is pending. The name of the victim is being withheld until the person is forensically identified and family members have been notified of the death.
The deceased is believed to be a 47-year-old former Mitchell resident. This is an ongoing investigation. At this point in time, there is no indication of foul play involving the death.
