Mitchell Police are investigating two separate vehicle crashes that occurred Sunday
1st and Burr accident
At approximately 9:13 Sunday morning, Mitchell Police officers responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 1st and Burr. A 2017 Mazda CX-9 was traveling northbound through the intersection when it collided with a 2024 Jeep Compass traveling westbound through the intersection. Both vehicles sustained significant damage. Both drivers claimed to have a green light at the time they entered the intersection. Minor injuries were reported. At this time no charges have been filed.
Garage struck by Vehicle
At approximately 1:44 pm Sunday, Mitchell Police officers responded to a report of a vehicle that left the roadway and hit a garage of a residence in the 600 block of South Lawler. Upon arrival, the officer found a 2000 GMC Yukon that had been traveling westbound in the 200 block of East Elm when it left the road and struck the garage. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 45-year-old, Christopher Dirkes. Dirkes was ultimately arrested for DWI, a class 1 misdemeanor. No one was injured in the residence. The garage suffered significant structural damage as the result of being struck by the Yukon being driven by Dirkes.
