Shortly before 11pm Wednesday, the Mitchell Police Department received a 9-1-1call reporting an assault in progress in the 500 block of E Hanson Ave. Mitchell Police Officers responded to the scene but did not locate a suspect or victim in the area that would have been involved in an assault. A short time later a white 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 vehicle was reported stolen near the area of the alleged assault. MPD Officers began searching for the stolen vehicle in question. On Shortly after midnight Wednesday, Mitchell 9-1-1 dispatchers began receiving complaints of a white GMC pickup truck driving recklessly ,hitting curbs and driving with no headlights on, in 400 block E Hanson Ave. Law Enforcement Officers responded to the area and located the vehicle at East 2 Ave and North Burr St. MPD officers attempted to stop the vehicle and the vehicle refused to stop. The driver of the vehicle eventually stopped, abandoned the vehicle, and fled the scene in the 200 block of South Capital. Law enforcement officers, including the South Dakota Highway Patrol and Davison County Sheriff’s Office, searched the area for the driver of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was not located. The vehicle in question was identified as the stolen truck that was reported earlier. The vehicle was processed for evidence and returned to the owner. The Mitchell Police Department would like to especially thank the South Dakota Highway Patrol and Davison County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this matter. The driver of the stolen vehicle in this case has not yet been identified and the case is still under investigation.
Anyone with information about the vehicle and or driver involved in this case is asked to contact the Mitchell Police Department. The Mitchell Police Department is also asking that anyone who lives in or near the area to please check your video security camera systems for video footage that may assist with this investigation.
