Mitchell Salvation Army Compassion Kitchen receives a $1,000 boost

The Salvation Army of Mitchell was recently awarded a $1,000 Operation Round-Up® grant from Central Electric Cooperative for the Compassion Kitchen nutrition program. Compassion Kitchen serves a noon meal each weekday in The Salvation Army building for anybody in need.

“We are very grateful for Central Electric’s help in this area, and I know our patrons of the Compassion Kitchen are also grateful for the organization’s willingness to help,” said Lieutenant Rodney Morin. He and his wife, Lieutenant Amber Morin, explained that the funds are being utilized to purchase healthy food options.

“We do not have any requirements for our hot noon meal guests. If anyone is hungry, we welcome them to come,” Morin explained. The Salvation Army’s Compassion Kitchen served 10,158 meals in 2022.

Central Electric Cooperative serves mostly rural portions of Aurora, Brule, Buffalo, Davison, Hanson, Jerauld, Miner and Sanborn Counties. Operation Round-Up is a voluntary program in which cooperative members round up their monthly statement to the next whole dollar, and the extra cents accumulate to support local projects.

The next Operation Round-Up grant application deadline is May 1. For more information about the grant program, contact Central Electric Cooperative at 1-800-477-2892 or visit www.centralec.coop and click member programs.
