Mitchell School Board approves two budgets

The Mitchell School Board hosted its annual public hearing during Monday’s meeting. Business manager Craig Breuning reviewed the numbers. “For the school district, K-12 only, just shy of $50 million,” said Bruening. “Somewhere in that range.”

As for the potential impact of the property tax reduction approved by lawmakers. “People’s valuations are changing, so they’re not going to see that total amount there, but they are going to see a decrease,” he said. “But they will see an increase when they go to buy their milk and their eggs and their stuff at the grocery store or the gas station or anywhere else, because of the sales tax that’s going from 4.2% to 4.5%.”

Breuning also pointed out that state aid is based on enrollment which is determined in late September.

In other business, the Board unanimously approved the budget resolution, re-elected Brittni Flood president and Shawn Ruml vice-president and approved the Mitchell Technical College budget.
