The Mitchell School Board hosted its final meeting for 2025 Monday evening at Longfellow Elementary School.
The group considered and approved the consent agenda, set the date of June 2nd, 2026 for the next school board election, approved policy 1084, dealing with fund-raising guidelines for school related activities and declared gymnastics mats surplus.
Superintendent Joe Childs updated the board regarding a proposed summer scholars program followed by a presentation by Ryan Van Zee from Mitchell Technical College encouraging local entrepreneurship among high school students.

The board also toured Longfellow Elementary School before adjourning.
Meanwhile, a week ago, Governor Larry Rhoden proposed no additional funding for education, community service providers and state employees during his budget address to state lawmakers.
Mitchell School Board president Brittni Flood called it disappointing. “To see just the lack of value in education,” said Flood. She says early education is where young people come from. “It’s great that they push for technical education and all that,” Flood continued. “But it starts from K-12 and that’s what we need.”
Superintendent Joe Childs pointed out last week school district operating expenses will continue to rise and no funding increase is the same as a cut.
