Mitchell School Board green-lights Begindergarten expansion

The Mitchell School Board is moving ahead with plans to expand the district’s Begindergarten program from half-day to full day starting next school year.

Superintendent Joe Childs says a $1-million dollar donation from the Roger and Vicki Musick Foundation will help fund the program during its first five years. “So they are ready to go in Kindergarten,” said Childs. “They know how to work with their peers, they understand kind of the way that the school operates and how things work.”

There are 28 children currently enrolled in Begindergarten among Mitchell’s three elementary schools.

Childs says the plan has been well-received by the teachers and elementary schools. “They understand this is a need…that is something that is really going to help students and help the district in a big way.”

The Board approved the plan unanimously.
