Mitchell School District could see declining revenue tied to fewer students

The Mitchell School Board reviewed projected revenue for the 2025-2026 school year during Monday’s meeting.

Superintendent Joe Childs said student numbers this budget year were down and he’s expecting the same for next year.

“The reason for that is we know that this year’s senior class, this year’s graduating class, is a larger group, the largest we have right now in K-12, and we don’t suspect that the incoming kindergartners will be the same size group,” said Childs. “In other words, we’re going to fall short of where we’re at in enrollment this year as the next year.”

He said the board will make some adjustments in how the district calculates expenses for the next school year.

Childs said the board will take a closer look at the revenue numbers during its next meeting on May 12th.
