Mitchell School District gets good marks from the South Dakota Education Department

The Mitchell School District fared well according to the latest statewide report card from the South Dakota Department of Education.

That’s the word from Superintendent Joe Childs as it applies to student achievement. “We really outperformed the state among math scores,” said Childs. “But we did outpace them by several percentage points in the English category, and we did outperform them in the science category by a percentage or more.”

He says the district also showed impressive improvement is reducing chronic absenteeism. “From 22%, I believe, to 16%,” Childs stated.

Which was better than expected in year one of the district’s effort to get more students in school on a regular basis.

Child’s credited hard work by teachers and students as reflected by the numbers on the state report card.
