Thanks to Mother Nature, Mitchell set a record low temperature for March 3rd. “Mitchell hit eighteen below which broke the old record of fourteen below from 1916,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Kyle Weisser. “So some truly Arctic air out there for early March.”
Weisser says if you think that’s cold, an observer in Alexandria recorded a low of 22 below zero, shattering the previous record of three-above in 2014. “This grip of the cold will not release,” Weisser said. “We’re hoping as we get five or six days out, we’re going to start trending a little bit milder.
In fact Friday’s high may reach into the mid 20’s.
Weisser also pointed out Mitchell tied the record for the lowest high temperature for March on Sunday as the high was zero.
He says at this point Mitchell’s snow pack is about 12 inches.
